Shine Dome and Basement Tour

The Australian Academy of Science's Shine Dome has been a Canberra landmark since its opening in 1959. In addition to being listed on the National Heritage Listing, the Shine Dome has received numerous awards, and is one of seven projects the Royal Australian Institute of Architects has nominated to the World Register of Significant Twentieth Century Architecture. Join us for this opportunity to take a tour of this unique Canberra building.

In addition to the public areas of the Shine Dome, this tour will include a rare opportunity to visit the basement - where documents from the Basser Library are stored.  Papers from some of Australia's most famous scientists are held here. The Academy's Archivist, Rosanne Walker will guide the tour through this interesting area.  Please note that this part of the tour includes a narrow and steep single flight of stairs and requires care in the storage area (limited headroom in places). Numbers will be strictly limited.

Start: 3:00pm. Meet at Australian Academy of Science, Shine Dome, Gordon Street, Acton, Canberra.

End: 4:00pm or 4.30pm for those who continue to the basement

Cost: Free
