Welcome to Acton Walkways
Acton Walkways promotes the many rich layers of Acton, a suburb situated in the heart of Canberra, the Australian Capital. Acton has a long history dating back to the early traditional custodians of the Canberra region, whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history. Following the arrival of Commonwealth surveyors in 1909, Acton Settlement was to become Canberra's first 'suburb', and remained the administrative and social centre for the next forty years.
Acton is now a thriving community with a wealth of attractions and activities, breathtaking Canberra vistas and scenic walking trails. Take the water line along Lake Burley Griffin, or meander through the many inland pathways linking the city to the lake. Visit almost 100 sculptures, 30 heritage sites, national icons, art, music and film venues, and stop by one of the many cafes and restaurants.
